Mausam has been received with mixed review from both critics and audiences. Its Box Office Collection is also not at all positive. Mausam has till Wednesday collected approx 28 crore nett all India and its first week collection is to remain below or around 30 crore nett. Lifetime business will be between 35-38 crore nett all India max. So, will Mausam will make profit or even recover its cost?
Lets see the Business Dynamics.
Mausam is speculated to be made at Rs. 60 crore. The fact, however, is that the investment of Sheetal Talwar and Eros International in the film is not more than Rs. 42-45 crore (Pre-Production and Marketing). Lets take the investors data as correct.
Mausam Cost - 42-45 crore.
Satelite Rights - 12-13 crore.
Music Rights - 5 crore.
Amount need to recovered from Theatres Worldwide is: Masuam Cost - (Satelite Rights + Music Rights) = 25-27 crore.
Predicted Domestic Lifetime Business is 35-38 Max. That means distribution share will be around 17-19 crore.
Predicted Overseas Lifetime Business is 2.5-2.75 USD. That means distributor share is around 5-6 crore.
So, Cumulative Distributor Share is 22-25 crore.
Profit Made by Mausam is: Amount need to recovered from Theatres Worldwide - Distributor share worldwide: 25-27 crore - 22-25 crore = -2 to -3 crore (Loss).
If we consider Theatrical Business Only : Mausam Cost - Cumulative Distributor Share: 42-45 crore - 22-25 crore = - 20 crore (Loss).
Verdict - Mausam is Theatrical Flop (20 crore loss). And even if we consider revenues generated from Satelite and Music Rights, Mausam will still not able to recover 2 to 3 crore.
